Sell my Business

We’ll show you the way

As the largest broker in the funeral industry, we’ve helped thousands of funeral home and cemetery professionals maximize the value of their businesses by connecting well-prepared sellers with quality buyers for the best possible results. Owners who sell with JCG experience 7-10% more in value than those who sell direct.

You’ve worked hard to build your business into the valuable asset it’s become. We respect that. That’s why we work equally hard to deliver value throughout every step of the selling process. With Johnson Consulting Group at your side, you can rest assured that the valuation, marketing, and selling of your business will yield maximum results.

  • Maximize the value of your business
  • Ensure that the legacy you created is preserved
  • Create quality custom marketing packages that get buyers to the table quickly
  • Carefully select our buyers to yield only serious and qualified offers
  • Ensure a seamless process from start to finish

Our Impact by the Numbers

Since 1997, we’re proud to have negotiated more than 1,000 contracts and over $2 Billion in closed transactions.

Step 1: Exploratory & Engagement Phase

We take the time to understand what succession looks like for our funeral and cemetery clients. We also clearly communicate how our process works before finalizing an engagement so that both parties understand their roles and responsibilities.

Step 2: Information Gathering Phase

We drill down to the core of your business and identify what will interest potential buyers in order to create a compelling sales story. We collect data on current contracts, market trends, strategic plans, employee resources, future profitability, and much more.

Step 3: Valuation Phase

Our experienced financial analysts provide a detailed analysis of your company’s current and historical financial trends. This allows us to compare your business against competitors in the market and highlight opportunities for improvement that can increase the likelihood of a quick sale.

Step 4: Potential Buyer Review Phase

Evaluating a buyer is an important step in the sales process. JCG maintains an extensive database of potential buyers and we assess each purchaser’s financial claims and professional qualifications as necessary. Selling a business isn’t just about exchanging money — the deal needs to be well-structured and the buyer should demonstrate the capability to successfully manage the business for the long term.

Step 5: Marketing Package & LOI Phase

Marketing strategy can make or break the sale of a funeral home or cemetery business. Our team creates custom, high-quality marketing packages that contain all the information needed to make a decision, which brings buyers to the table faster. Only buyers who accept our confidentiality requirements can review the package — if they show interest, we provide additional data in a sales memorandum and request a Letter of Intent (LOI) before moving forward.

Step 6: Negotiation & Acceptance Phase

This is where thorough planning and preparation come into play. We understand how to evaluate an offer from a prospect, examine the terms and conditions, and discern between similar proposals from multiple buyers. Our goal is to help you negotiate maximum value for your business because we know it’s not only about what you get, but what you keep.

Step 7: Due Diligence & Closing Phase

The closing phase involves making sure both parties are satisfied with the final agreement, and that lines of communication remain open to ensure a smooth transition. JCG coordinates, manages, and oversees the due diligence process with all attorneys and third-party inspectors. We also secure all confidential materials and assist with contract revisions to ensure a successful closing.

A word from our clients

I contacted JCG after my husband, who managed and operated our funeral home, suffered a fatal heart attack. I needed to sell the business ASAP and had no clue where to start. I do not work in the funeral business and was in no way prepared to run or sell the business – I was terrified. Johnson Consulting reassured me that with their help, the business would sell. And they kept their word – it sold! They were incredibly patient with me and thoroughly explained the process. I worked mostly with Karen; she was professional, highly competent and always kept me in the loop with updates. She did a tremendous amount of work, stayed with me when I was anxious and stayed on me when I got lazy! When things got heated, Karen kept her cool. I didn’t have to worry about anything slipping through the cracks, as she was on top of everything all of the time! I highly recommend Johnson Consulting if you are thinking about selling (or buying) a funeral home. The price I paid was more than fair and they went above and beyond for me.
